Prosthodontics

It typically takes a dentist two separate appointments to make and place a new dental crown for a patient.

The first appointment involves:

1) Preparing (shaping) the tooth:

  • Numbing the tooth
  • Preparing (shaping) the tooth
  • prep

    2) Taking an impression of the prepared tooth and placing a temporary crown.

Once your dentist has completed shaping your tooth, they will need to make a copy of it by way of taking a dental impression.

    The second appointment involves:
    – Removing the temporary crown
    – Evaluating the fit and appearance of the crown
    – Cementing the crown

Single tooth can be crowned to reinforce the tooth after extensive cavities, endodontic treatment or certain fracture of the crown.
